Scott Young
Scott Young initially trained as an actor before beginning work in education. Having seen that the skills he used as an actor would be ideal for engaging with young people, he set about training actors to deliver the curriculum in primary schools.
He has worked extensively in Primary, Secondary and Special Needs education specialising in drama, film and the ‘creative curriculum’. Scott delivers workshops with young people alongside showing teachers how they might use practices from drama to meet their learning objectives.
Scott also provides small group and one-to-one sessions with pupils with behavioural needs to provide support in addition to their teachers' classroom management strategies. This individualised support is aimed and helping pupils gain more control over emotional reactions. His approach makes use of structured ‘mindfulness’ techniques that help young people become more aware of their own impulsive responses and then to become more able to control them. He also teaches these techniques to teachers to help them cope with the emotional demands of confrontational pupil behaviour in challenging classrooms, and in turn to teach teachers how to help students.
Scott is also an accredited leader in the Assertive Discipline programme, and so additionally provides consultancy to schools and teachers on the implementation of best classroom practice alongside individual behaviour planning.
